*IMPORTANT Self-care message* This episode is a sensitive one and it may be difficult to listen to for some people. Therefore please do look after yourself and make sure you reach out for help & support if it evokes some difficult emotions and feelings.
The topic is childhood abuse. The Muslim community is not immune to being affected by physical, emotional and sexual childhood abuse and it is imperative we understand, recognise and deal with abuse when it happens. For too long it has been brushed under the carpet, as it has been done in wider society.
We discuss various topics with Shaykh Amer including
Speaking up and addressing the problem of abuse
How to deal with abuse when it happens in religious circles and institutions
How to cope as an adult when you have been abused as a child
Protecting our young people and future generations
